At 5:29:45 a.m. on July 16, 1945, a 19-kiloton plutonium bomb, the first in history, was exploded at Trinity near Alamogordo, New Mexico. It created a mushroom cloud rising 41,000 ft. The bomb emitted heat three times the temperature of the interior of the sun and wiped out all plant and animal life within a mile. The book that includes this history is offered free on the anniversary of that date so you can read all about it. See the site looked like in 2002, the timeline, the History. the theory, the reason, and Humanitarian Considerations.
