History

1947 Project Cirrus in 1947 Seeding with Dry Ice.

1950s Investigations

1960s Project Stormfury. They theorized that hurricanes could be weakened by releasing frozen nuclei or particles of Silver Iodide compound (AgI) into the wall clouds of a hurricane or tropical storm, and imbalance the forces within the storm system.

Simultaneously, a group at the Navy Weapons Center in California improved seeding technology by developing new seeding generators that would be able to release large amounts of crystals into tropical storms and hurricanes.

The project team of workers from both the U.S. Weather Bureau and the Navy was able to decrease the sustained winds in the storm by ten percent.

Hurricane Debby was seeded on a couple of occasions over the two day period of August 19-20, 1969. Each time the storm was seeded, sustained winds were reduced significantly.

Ultimately though, Project Stormfury was canceled in 1980

Grumpy old man rants

Of course, President Trump has plenty of time. How could he distracted by the never-ending Mueller witch hunt? This is all he has on his plate right now and this is just what my old ancient brain remembers on the spot!

Avoiding nuclear war with North Korea and stopping nuclear tests and intercontinental rocket shots over Japan.

At the G-20 meeting protecting our trading rights.

Dealing with Russian aggression in Crimea, Ukraine, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Dealing with Chinese aggression on trade and constructing military Islands in international waters in the South China Sea. Also stopping trade violations that have been going on for decades.

New trade agreements with everyone.

Dealing with "Resistance" from Dems and “Never Trumpers" including threatened 85 investigations against President Trump next year.

Improving NATO and getting members to pay the amount they agreed to.

Contending with the longest war in American history — Afghanistan

Dealing with continuing horrors with ISIS, Iraq, Iran, and Syria.

False news from biased media.

The “Deep State”

Khashoggi murder that may cause a break with one of our only two friends in the Middle East.

Hillary

Leaks — strangely only those that hurt President Trump.

Illegal immigration. Now estimated 22 million here and thousands at the gates plus thousands more in caravans on their way.

Trying to stop GM from closing plants here and taking US jobs to China.

Wouldn’t you rather have our President concentrating on these instead of on the Mueller Witch Hunt with his all Democratic, anti-Trump gang? All of whom have conflicts of interest?

The D-Day Doll and WWII hero, 97-year-old Ed Feichtinger from the Troop Train will fly again!

Some of you may remember my WWII Buddy, Ed Feichtinger from the Troop Train. To show his support for the Troop Train program, Ed rode it four times in a 5 year period, in order to share his dramatic story of piloting his C-47 cargo plane over Iwo Jima during the heat of battle.

His mission was to take off from Saipan and make multiple low level passes over the runway on Iwo Jima in order to drop crates of the much-needed plasma and machine gun barrels to the Marines below. The plasma was for obvious reasons. The Gun barrels were to replace the originals, which were worn out after a day of battle from all the volcanic pumas getting inside the barrels.

What made the delivery so difficult was, the US Marines were on one side of the of the enemy held runway, while the Japanese fought from the other side of the runway. Col. Ed and the other flight crews had to fly between to two fighting forces, dropping their precious cargo loads from just 50' above the runway. They made 6 low-level passes before the entire load was dumped. They then headed back to Saipan, landing with just 20 minutes of fuel left. One plane, which arrived late, ran out of fuel just after they landed.

I have now known my good friend, Ed for 50 years. In the past few years, he has expressed his desire to go up in a C-47 to commemorate his WWII Pilot days. His dream was to fly over the Rose Parade in a C-47 on his 100th Birthday, to relive his flights of 73 years ago. Although that dream has never faded, recently he's made comments about being tired so, I decided not to wait.

After two months of planning and preparation, I'm pleased to announce, Ed 's wish will come true next Saturday, hosted by the "Planes of Fame Air Museum" at the Chino, CA Airport (http://www.planesoffame.org/) and, the historical aviation organization, "The Confederate Air Force." (https://www.commemorativeairforce.org/)
The C-47 is scheduled to arrive at 9:30AM Feb. 3, 2018. The program will begin at 10:00AM. The greatest thing about all this is, Ed thinks he's only going to be one of the guest speakers and the Museum is bringing in the plane in support of his WWII Story over Iwo Jima. He won't know about the flight till after his talk when they present him with the invitation to pilot the plane parked just outside the Museum Hanger. Till then, he knows nothing about the flight. It's the Museum's surprise gift for Ed's recent 97th Birthday.

Channel 5 KTLA, Los Angeles has been informed so, it should be on the news that night.

We're planning a "Mail Call" for Ed that morning. So, I'm requesting that those who would like to do so, please send Col. Ed Feichtinger, USAF Ret., a message of congratulations and any personal message you might want to include. It doesn't matter if you don't know him, it's the thought that counts. This WWII Vet put his life on the line for us. The least we can do is send him a thank you message on this momentous occasion. All messages should be sent to my E-mail address (WOFproductions@aol.com) by this Tuesday eve. I'll bind them up and present them to Col. Ed on the morning of his commemorative flight. I hope you'll all take a moment to participate in Col. Ed's once in a lifetime adventure. The more messages he receives, the more meaningful his "Mail Call."

Thank you for your support.

A Grumpy old man's pontifications!
I don't understand why the Democrats keep insulting the American people with their rants that the current government shutdown is the Republicans fault because they have "control" of both houses. Evidently, they assume none of us are aware it takes 60 votes to pass anything. We learned this in 7th-grade civics, Mr. Schumer.

Back in the days of the movie "Mr. Smith goes to Washington", a Senator could block any bill indefinitely simply by holding the floor by speaking. It was called a filibuster. In 1917 the Senate decided to stop this with the “Cloture Rule” which could stop a filibuster with 2/3 vote. That was reduced in 1975 to 60 out of the 100 Senators.

If a party has the House, the president, and a 60 vote majority, then they have control . . . if the party’s own 60 votes can hang together. President Obama had this control — President Trump and the Republicans do not.

HURRICANE CONTROL! What happened?

What happened to the sometimes successful efforts to control hurricanes?

As early as right after the end of WWII until the 1980s,  there were efforts to control or reduce the strength of hurricanes. These efforts were mostly by the USA although conspiracy theories of China's inventing methods of controlling the weather abound.

Then they used dry ice, Silver Oxide, and other methods to cool them off. Wouldn't you think that some improvement would have been made in the last 70 years? Have you heard of ANY! Even a small reduction like was accomplished in StormFury* would help. What happened to the American "can-do" attitude?

My own vague memory recalls Castro blaming the CIA of seeding a hurricane causing it to hit Cuba. Castro, as well as worldwide anti-Americans and US Left, accused the CIA of seeding a hurricane to ruin Cuba's sugar crop. Is this the reason?

Is the litigious world and PC the reason?  Operation StormFury* was discontinued for, among other things, "Governments had to be willing to accept the risk of a public outcry if a seeded hurricane (or Typhoon) devastated a coastal region.  This outcry and its legal consequences might arise even if the human intervention had no effect on the hurricane."**

*Project Stormfury was an attempt to weaken tropical cyclones by flying aircraft into them and seeding with silver iodide. The project was run by the United States Government from 1962 to 1983.

WHAT's RIGHT ABOUT AMERICA!

The Good people in Pensacola just don't know how to throw a proper violent protest!

Pensacola, FL is the home of a 50' monument erected in 1891. It was named after Confederate president Jefferson Davis.

Early on Saturday, August 26, 2017, About 300 protestors and counter-protestors turned out to Pensacola's Lee Square. The rally was organized to support of the city's most prominent Confederate memorial. Rally organizer Thomas Olsen of Milton said he organized the rally "as a means of protecting the history behind the monument." The counter demonstrators were there to promote removing the statue. Soon both sides started yelling at each other.

The demonstration began around 9 a.m. Dozens of police officers were present to monitor the event, with additional units standing by. No violence broke out during the two-and-a-half-hour rally.  Mr. Olsen made a short speech; then his group sang the National Anthem.

After the National Anthem, The counter demonstration started chanting "Show me what democracy looks like! This is what democracy looks like!". To the thrill of bystanders, the demonstrators started chanting with them!  Both sides began chanting the same thing.

The following is from a radio interview conducted by Andrew McKay, a popular local News Radio 1620 personality. With him is Mike Wood Pensacola Police PIO.

"You know, they are exactly right, this IS what democracy, looks like," said McKay. Wood responded you're exactly right! You know, we saw people with faces just inches apart screaming at each other but ending up shaking hands and some of them were hugging and saying "We are Americans first!" I saw that several times. We didn't want this to explode. We didn't want national coverage. But I sorta wish the National media were there to show America what could be done.

The story is; Pensacola did it with class. Pensacola did it peacefully. Said McKay. "These people got their voices heard, got their point across and at the end of the day, they didn't become violent."

Please share this and pass along! We can all use some good news!

At 5:29:45 a.m. on July 16, 1945, a 19-kiloton plutonium bomb, the first in history, was exploded at Trinity near Alamogordo, New Mexico. It created a mushroom cloud rising 41,000 ft. The bomb emitted heat three times the temperature of the interior of the sun and wiped out all plant and animal life within a mile.
