Hector A. Cafferata, 86, Dies; Given Medal of Honor for Korea Heroics. He was a former Marine private who received the nation’s highest military honor for single-handedly holding off an enemy regiment during the Korean War and safeguarding his comrades from a live grenade until he was felled by a sniper’s bullet, died on Tuesday in Venice, Fla. He was 86.
