The Swamp Ghost Lives!

As editor of Kilroy Was Here I often get really outstanding contributions. As they are the hard work of my competitors, I can't put them on KilroyWasHere.org but they deserve wider distribution. This is one shared by Bill Lewis.

In February 1942, after America's first heavy bomber offensive raid of World War II, a bullet-riddled U.S. B-17E bomber crash landed in a remote swamp in Papua New Guinea

After a half-century in the soggy marsh, this once-forgotten piece of history returned to its homeland in April 2013, and is sitting on display at Hawaii's Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor

Papua, New Guinea! For more on this "knife fight out of the stone age." Enter "New Guinea" in the KilroyWasHere.org site search box. We have more on these almost forgotten battles than anyone!
